Jameson Monthly

3 Years of Jameson

Snapseed 20Happy birthday to our THREE YEAR OLD!!! Three is dirty knees, scrapes and bruises, wonder and imagination, lots of make believe, picture books, BIG emotions, plenty of poop jokes, silly conversations, sweet conversations, deep conversations, questions I can’t answer, dance parties, sweaty arms wrapped around my neck, and more exclamations of “Mommy, watch this!!!” than I can ever hope to keep track of.

Three is the best. Except for when it’s the hardest. And sometimes it’s really, really hard! Jameson is learning to be gentle and kind even when he’s annoyed; he’s learning patience and good sportsmanship; he’s learning to share; he’s learning to work through more complex emotions like jealousy and ungratefulness and being afraid to fail; he’s learning empathy and consideration; he’s learning responsibility and taking pride in doing good work; he’s learning that as wonderful and adorable and fun as he is…the world is full of other people to serve. He’s learning about who God is and what the Bible says about every one of us. Sometimes I find myself lost on how to teach him truths that feel too big for even me to understand. Sometimes I don’t know whether to deal with an issue or give him grace. It’s a lot of learning for both of us. But I go to bed every night feeling ever so thankful for the boy who made me a mother and for every moment I get to spend with him by my side. These are the good old days, right now.

Here’s what’s new for Jameson at three years old…

Height and Weight: At his three-year-old checkup he weighed in right at 30 lbs and stands 3 ft, 1 inch tall. This puts him in the 32nd percentile for weight and the 40th for height. A bit on the smaller side, but still growing well and very healthy. 🙂 He’s meeting (or exceeding) all of his milestones and our pediatrician was happy with his growth over the past year.

Snapseed 21

Clothing: He’s in the 3T size now, although some of his 2T clothes still fit him if the brand runs a little big. His shoes are size 8, and (*drumroll please*) no more diapers! We started potty training about three months ago and it really only took a week and a half from start to finish. He was ready. And you better believe I was too haha!

Snapseed 29

Sleep: In general, he sleeps fine. He’s still napping for about an hour and a half to two hours every afternoon (praaaaaise the Lord) and his bedtime is around 8pm. He sleeps until 6:30am, sometimes a bit later or earlier. Occasionally he’ll wake up during the night and shout for Alex to bring him water (lol) and there have been a few nights since we switched his crib to a bed that he welcomed himself into our bed in the middle of the night. Alex has found him out on the couch in the living room too haha! But mostly he stays in his own bed and it’s not an issue.

Snapseed 34

Eating: Stiiiiiill such a picky eater. He complains a little bit when we make him eat things he doesn’t like, but he still gets it done. Breakfast and lunch are never issues; it’s really dinner that takes the longest. But he’s expected to eat what we eat and he does. His favorites right now are French toast, strawberries, oranges, veggie straws, broccoli, chicken nuggets, Pirate’s Booty, yogurt, PB&J (or peanut butter and honey), tacos, smoothies, pasta, pizza, and quinoa or rice. He’ll also never say no to a hot dog or some ice cream.

Snapseed 25

Speech & Language: He’s absolutely full of questions these days and asks “why” about everything. His language skills are better than his speech skills (he’s a little lazy with his articulation of certain sounds) but Alex and I can understand everything he says, even if unfamiliar listeners can’t. He surprises us almost every day with a new vocabulary word, many of which he gets from the stacks and stacks of books we read every day – he’s a total bookworm! ❤ He’s super goofy and has recently been really into making jokes and figuring out humor. Sometimes it’s hilarious and sometimes I’m like, “Okay, enough with the poop jokes. Eat your dinner.” But overall he continues to make progress in this area and it’s a delight to watch him learn and experiment with language! I have a running list on my phone of all my favorite Jameson quotes. 🙂

Snapseed 32Processed with VSCO with b5 preset

Milestones: Like I mentioned before, potty training was a big one this year! He can also identify most of the alphabet and some of their sounds now. We play spelling games where we try to figure out what the first letter of words are (“What does ‘pig’ start with? Hmmm…p, p, p…” and he’ll shout out “P!”). He can identify a few numbers by sight as well, and can count to 15 (although he sometimes skips 14 for whatever reason haha). He can verbally spell his name almost (he often says “J-k-m-e-s-o-n” hahah) and can recognize it when it’s written out. He knows the full answers to two catechism questions and has about six Bible verses memorized. He rides his tricycle with ease and climbs and jumps on ev.ery.thing. He loves doing “cool tricks” and frequently does one-legged headstands and flips off the couch onto cushions below. He’s always trying to impress us. 😉 His fine motors skills are improving and he can color within the lines better, although lately he hasn’t been super into coloring anymore, which is sad to me because I love coloring with him! He’s also able to do 24 piece puzzles independently. He just sees how things go together, sometimes even before I do!

Snapseed 37Snapseed 28

Loves: His family, superheroes (especially The Avengers, but Batman too), READING, all things high-action (running, jumping, doing cool tricks, being tossed around, wrestling daddy and/or Nora), sweets, making people laugh, playing pretend (especially dressing up like superheroes or running his pretend restaurant or being a doctor), swimming, hanging out with his grandparents, music (especially when Alex plays guitar or when we listen to our hymns during morning time), dancing, and helping me cook.

Snapseed 22Snapseed 33Snapseed 36

Doesn’t like: Many foods, trying new things when he’s not sure how it’ll turn out or when he’s afraid to fail, sharing toys he’s super into at the moment, getting his face wet (in the pool or bath, although he has been improving), and getting his hands dirty (which we are also working on haha).

Things I want to remember: How I often find you with a book on your lap, quietly flipping through its pages. How you’re always trying to get Nora to laugh. Your goofy jokes and the way you change lyrics of songs to try and be funny. Your little voice shouting “I AM ALL DONE POOPING, MOM!” from the bathroom. The way you still love to run around in a circle while Daddy plays guitar during family worship (I’ll be so sad when you outgrow this!). Listening to Daddy read books and do funny voices with you in our big bed every night before bedtime. Watching you and Nora giggle and wrestle each other. The way your curious mind wants to know the answers to every question. Our morning time routine during breakfast (prayers, catechism and memory verses, Bible reading, poetry or Mother Goose rhymes, and listening to hymns). And how you still say “jump on the booka bookas” when you want to jump off the couch onto the pillows.

Jameson, we love you SO much! Just knowing you is such a joy. We feel incredibly blessed to be the ones who get to raise you! We pray daily that you come to know and love the Lord, that you grow to become a good man and a servant leader, and that you fill this world with proclamations of the Gospel. We’re so proud of who you are! It’s the greatest gift to watch you learn and grow. Happy third birthday, baby. ❤

Jameson Monthly

2 Years of Jameson

We have a two-year-old! That feels so weird to say, like Alex and I are adults or something crazy like that. I thought I would be more sentimental and sad around his birthday this year because we’re officially all done with his babyhood but honestly I love this stage so much! Jameson and I are becoming such good buddies now. We can play lots of bigger kid games together, we joke around, we have little conversations, he helps me with easy chores around the house. Of course there are things that are harder now that he’s bigger…he’s got his own ideas about how to do things, he’s learning how to share and how to be a good sport, he’s finding out that sometimes things don’t go according to plan and sometimes we have to be patient. But he’s still our sweet and thoughtful boy and we still have many more good days than hard days. He is truly such a blessing and I feel so lucky to have him every single day.

Here’s what’s new for our little guy at two years old…

Weight & Length: At his two-year-old checkup a couple weeks ago he weighed in at 25 lbs, 8 oz and measured 2 feet, 9 inches tall, which is only about two pounds heavier and two inches taller than he was six months ago. This puts him in the 20th percentile for weight and the 22nd percentile for height…such a little peanut! Everything was healthy, though, so we aren’t concerned at all.

Clothing: He’s in 2T stuff now, and size 7 for shoes! I’m currently working on putting together his wardrobe for fall/winter, and gathering stuff for his sister too. It’s a whole new world buying things for two, especially since now I’m buying for a little girl as well!

Sleep: In all honesty he is not the best sleeper. He naps once a day for about an hour and a half to two hours (never a problem) but at night he’s kind of a fitful sleeper. Some nights are fine, others he’s waking up every couple of hours and calling for one of us. Alex usually goes in and Jameson will immediately lay back down and go to sleep without a problem, so I think he just gets scared and lonely sometimes.

Eating: Jameson is still such a picky little eater. He prefers to snack rather than eat full meals, but he’s good about eating what we tell him to even when he doesn’t want to (although it takes him a loooong time. Literally the slowest eater I’ve ever met.). His favorite things to eat are strawberries and blueberries, oranges, French toast, eggs, chicken nuggets, PB&J’s, pizza, rice, yogurt, Pirate’s Booty, and really any kind of sweet (of course). He’s not really into many meats or veggies so we usually have to work a little harder to get those in.

Speech & Language: He’s recently totally taken off in this area! He regularly speaks in six word sentences and copies eeeeverything. He has an amazing memory and can tell full stories about things we’ve done or seen — even from months ago! Sometimes he sounds like a Minion because he likes to fill in the words he doesn’t know with babble, but I understand most of what he’s saying even if I don’t understand every little word. I love having conversations with him and I love reading books as he recites along with me. He knows about 6 or 7 letters by sight now and can sing along to parts of the ABC’s (and lots of other songs too). We’re also working on memorizing some Scripture and some Catechism questions, which he’s doing great with. There’s so much more I can say about this area but I think I’ll save it for another post. Maybe a “Jameson Says” series with all the cute and funny things he says. 🙂

Loves: Spider-Man, the Hulk, wrestling with Daddy, helping me cook/bake, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Curious George, reading, coloring, Play-Doh, playing with his racetrack, playing with his Hess helicopter, swimming, running and jumping and being tough, hide-and-seek, playing his matching games, spending time with his family and cousins, and dancing! His top song right now is probably “Get Back Up Again” from Trolls, but he really loves all music and especially when Alex plays guitar.

Hates: Currently, the wind (random, but he had a terrifying moment last week where a huge gust blasted him in the face and shot a bunch of leaves straight at him haha). Also really doesn’t like eating sometimes, and hates when I tell him he needs to wait patiently and quietly (we’re working on this). And as we discovered on his birthday (whoops) he hates the Rainforest Café.

Things We Want to Remember: How much you love feeling your baby sister kick, the way you say “C’mon Daddy!” in that squeaky voice, the way you shout “Mommy, ARE you?!” when you need me, the way you wrap us in the best hugs with your tiny arms around our necks, how you get so excited and proud when you do the simplest things (“I deet!”), how you try to bargain with us when we tell you it’s time to stop something (“One more time den aaaall done”), how you run around and around in a circle with the biggest smile on your face when Daddy plays guitar or your favorite song comes on, your “Hulk Smash” impressions and the way you pretend to shoot Spider-Man webs out of your wrists with the sound effects and everything, how you like to encourage me (“Wow! Good job, Mommy!”), how you empathize with others when things go wrong (“Oh no, Mana [Madelyn] sad.” and “Poor Daddy!” when Daddy has to mow the lawn in the heat), how you’ve started joking about poop, the way you make fake phone calls (“Hi Daddy. How’s doin’? Okay bye. *click!*”), and how you’re always ready to act goofy with me.

We love you so much, our big two year old! You make us proud every day and we’re so thankful that God continues to bless our lives with YOU! ❤

Jameson Monthly

18 Months of Jameson

I’m a little late with this post (sheesh, it’s hard work keeping up with this kid) but I can’t believe we have a one and a half year old! Jameson is really coming into his own now, and we see bits of each of us in his looks and personality…plus a whole lot that is all Jameson. 🙂 He is extra sweet, so kind and thoughtful, very silly, adventurous, brave, and smart, and very much a rule-follower (which I personally thank the good Lord for). He’s always looking for ways to make me proud or get me to smile and we have way more good days than we ever do hard days. Jameson is all we could have ever asked for and more.

Here’s where we stand at 18 months!

Weight & Length: At his checkup last week he weighed in at 23 lbs, 1 oz (which is exactly two pounds bigger than he was at 15 months. Slow and steady with this little guy!). This puts him in only the 34th percentile for weight, even though he seems big. He’s actually quite the little peanut. He’s 2 ft, 7.25 inches tall which is only a quarter of an inch taller than his 15 month appointment, keeping him all the way down in the 14th percentile. His pediatrician isn’t worried at all though, as both my husband and I were small kids. Jameson will likely hit his growth spurt later than most, but then he will shoot up to around 6 feet or a bit taller, just like his daddy. I just hope he doesn’t mind too much about being small for awhile. I know how frustrating it can be for a kid to always be the smallest.

Clothing: He’s in 18 month stuff now, or 18 month-2T if the sizing runs small. I just got him some new stuff for the summer since it’s already warming up over here and it’s all sooo cute! (Thank you, Gymboree.) He still needs a couple more things but then he should be set until the fall!

Hair & Eyes: He’s always getting compliments on both of these things. I would probably call his hair strawberry blonde, although sometimes it’s more strawberry and sometimes it’s more blonde. My sister just gave him his third haircut and ohhhh he just looks so handsome and grown up! He loves to comb his own hair (aka mess it up after I’ve already combed it) and even though the banana curls are gone, his hair still has an adorable wave to it on the top where it’s longer. His eyes are a dark hazel with the looongest lashes.

Sleep: This is pretty much all good, or all bad haha. He goes through phases where he’s waking up several times a night, every single night, and crying until we go in and sit down next to him (he doesn’t need or want to be held, he literally just wants someone in there with him). And then he goes through phases (like right now) where he sleeps perfectly peacefully through the entire night with no wakings at all. I think he’s just very sensitive to certain things, like teething and growth spurts, and his sleep just reflects that something bigger is going on with him. He still naps once a day, sometimes for a couple of hours but usually more like an hour and 20 minutes at the most.

Eating: Homeboy is so picky, but because he aims to please us we’re able to get him to at least try different things. Although even when he likes a certain food he sometimes still refuses to eat it for reasons I have no idea about. But we’re pretty consistent with him and he has to eat enough or try a bite of a new food before he’s allowed to get up. His favorite things to eat are all types of fruits, Pirate’s Booty (his absolute favorite snack), Mac ‘n Cheese, french fries, pasta, French Toast, pizza, smoothies, scrambled eggs, and desserts of course. He hates most meat (except chicken nuggets, but are those really meat?) and won’t go near most vegetables unless I disguise them or hide them in smoothies.

Milestones: He’s got 12 teeth now (his four molars are in) with his incisors breaking through just last week. He runs literally all the time, can jump a little bit (doesn’t get very high haha), loves doing all things by himself, tries his best with his t-ball set, and is learning so much so fast. He copies almost everything Alex or I do and he especially LOVES to copy his cousin Madelyn, which is sometimes great and sometimes causes trouble haha.

Communication: I just realized how big of a leap he’s made in this area since 15 months! Last time I wrote an update he had about 10 spoken words and 10 signs, and now I just counted and he’s up to 65 spoken words, tons of animal sounds, and he still signs 5 words. And he’s learning a new word almost every single day. He’s started combining two words together (“Uh-oh, Mama” or “up please” or my personal favorite “my do”) and once or twice I’ve actually heard three words in a row (“oh, my wawa!”). Most often, though, he speaks in strings of gibberish with random real words thrown in there. I really think he’s learned so much from how much we read, and he loves to recite books he’s memorized along with me (our current favorite being “Breakfast by Molly”). He’s also gotten really good at relaying stories to us about events that have happened. He has a great memory! For example, if he falls down and gets a little owie he’ll take my hand, lead me back to where he got hurt, look me in the eye and explain an entire story in gibberish while pointing and telling me about his owie. It’s amazing how much he can explain and get you to understand even without saying very many real words. We’re currently working on some colors (he can point to a few correctly but still has yet to say them) and some shapes too. He knows the letter A as well but that’s the only one haha.

Loves: Copying his cousin Madelyn, loving on his baby cousin Benji, watering the garden/playing with the hose, dancing, Curious George and Thomas the Train, swings, playing with both sets of grandparents, bubbles, all things outside (he’s constantly shouting “back? back?” because he wants to go in the backyard), chasing Charlie, and anything that allows him to get his little body moving!

Hates: When he can’t get something to work on his own, sitting still (church is especially a challenge right now), any food he deems unworthy, and long car rides (kind of goes with the sitting still thing).

Things I want to remember: Watching your daddy show you how to hit a baseball, the way you tell us you want a snack or a bite of something (loud slurping noise), the way you yell “Mama?! Mama?!” when you need to find me as soon as possible, your gibberish stories that have perfect intonation and facial expressions to go along, how you always say “oh no!” when things go wrong, how you say “I dunno” when you’re not sure of the answer, how gentle and sweet you are with your cousin Benji, how you say Chuck (“duck”) and Madelyn (“danna”) and Uncle Colby (“CoCo”), the way you wake me up every morning by kissing my cheek multiple times, your little slide to the side dance, the way you say belly button (“bucket”), how Charlie sleeps under your crib for every one of your naps because he doesn’t want to leave you, your happy kicky legs when Daddy pops up next to your window in the car and surprises you, how you squint one eye shut while we pray and say “amen” at the end, how you randomly wave and say hi to us throughout the day, and the giant proud smile you get on your face after you do something cool or help me with a chore. Oh there are so many more things I could list! Eighteen months is so much fun.

We love you so much, Jameson! You are the very best part of every day. ❤

Fifteen months of Jameson

Processed with VSCO with g2 preset

It’s been awhile since I wrote one of these updates, but Jameson just had his 15 month well-visit and I thought it was time to document all the new and exciting things in this boy’s world. 🙂

He’s grown a TON since I wrote his 12 month update, in every way possible! Oh, he is just the sweetest little guy. Full of cheesy smiles for everyone, so so smart, determined to learn new things and gain independence, generous and kind to all his little friends, and an incredibly good listener. I could brag on this kid all day but I better get to the update. 🙂

Weight & Length: He weighed in at 21.1 lbs, which is almost exactly what he weighed at his 12 month checkup. But he grew two inches since then (he’s now 2’7″ which is adorable), so I think he’s just staying the same for weight because he’s so active now. Still getting bigger, just losing some of his baby chub. He’s in the 40th percentile for height, the 25th for weight, and his head circumference is in the 15th percentile (little peanut head <3).

Processed with Snapseed. Processed with VSCO with s2 preset

Clothing: Honestly right around the same as he was in the last update. 12-18 month range for clothes (or just 18 month stuff) and still size 4 for diapers. Gymboree and Target are my favorite places to shop for him; all the winter lines are just so stinkin’ adorable!

Processed with VSCO with s2 preset

Hair & Eyes: Everyone always comments about how light his hair is! Some say it’s red, some say light brown, I see more of a strawberry blonde. He got his first haircut about a month ago (November 16th, it was a bittersweet day) so most of his cute little curls are all gone. But! As his hair grows out I can see it getting more and more wavy, so I think the curls will be back someday. As for his eyes, they’re super dark…sort of brown, sort of hazel, with eyelashes for daaaays.

Before his haircut. Those curls! ❤

Sleep: Honestly this has been so hard lately! He’s in this phase right now where he wakes up several times a night crying for us. Sometimes he can get himself back to sleep, sometimes one of us has to go in there and pat his little tushy until he calms down. One night he was up from 1am-5am, oh it was just the worst. We transitioned him to one nap a day hoping this would help him get more solid sleep at night but it really hasn’t done anything at all so far. He does nap for longer periods of time during the day (sometimes, hah) so hopefully his nighttime sleep will improve soon too.

Eating: We’ve definitely seen improvement in this area, although he is still super picky and finicky about food. He eats three square meals a day (with some snacks in between) and nurses once during the day and once before bed. I’ve thought about trying to wean him completely (he’d probably be fine nutrition-wise) but he’s still so happy to nurse and I love it too so we might keep it around for a little while longer.

Processed with Snapseed. Processed with VSCO with s2 presetimg_2160

Milestones: He’s got 8 teeth total now and he’s blasting through physical milestones! He runs and climbs and does daredevil things that terrify me all the time. He can eat with a fork or a spoon, he tries to jump (mostly just lifts his shoulders up haha), throws balls and tries to catch them too, he’s figured out how to open doors (that’s been real fun), and he loves climbing all over the playground and going down slides. He’s really not afraid of much!

Processed with VSCO with s3 presetimg_1333img_3069img_2506

Communication: This is my favorite area right now! Wow, this kid is smart and so quick to learn new words. He’s picking up vocabulary left and right and he understands a ton. He follows directions so well (“go clean up your toys” or “give this to Daddy” or “do your cheesy face!”) and his sign language amazes me! Honestly. I counted the other day and realized he can actually say at least 10 words and he can sign 8 other words! Plus he knows like 10 different animals sounds and a few vehicle noises as well. I am very impressed by him all the time. And I love all his other forms of communication too, like pointing, high fives, giving knuckles, waving, blowing kisses, playing peekaboo, giggling with his friends, etc. It’s so sweet watching his personality blossom.

Saying “no no no”

Loves: Going to playgroup, reading, music and dancing (especially to “Oh How I Need You” by All Sons & Daughters), animals, being chased/wrestling/playing rough, copying everything (there’s nothing like a copycat toddler to let you know what you do and say all the time haha), Charlie, playing with all our DVD cases, his cousin Madelyn, playing with kids his age, playing outside, watching airplanes, trying to sweep with my giant broom, hanging out with his family, checking out our little garden, watering the plants, and eating pizza!

qfog9447Processed with VSCO with s2 presetProcessed with Snapseed. Processed with VSCO with s3 presetimg_1829Processed with VSCO with s3 preset

Hates: When I brush his teeth for him, sitting in his carseat for too long, really sitting still anywhere for too long, and getting his diaper changed (along the same lines of sitting still haha). Mostly he just hates being still.

Things I want to remember: The way you tell yourself “no no no” (wagging your finger and saying the words at the same time), how you bust out of the bathroom after a bath so you don’t have to get dressed, how sweet you are to your friends and how you love to share, how you kiss the plants in the garden, how you immediately start dancing when my dad sings your Mister Man song (and how you dance to really any music as soon as you hear it), how you say “yes” (very quietly with a big smile), how loud and weird you get when people come over or daddy comes home because you’re just so excited, how you say “that” when you point to something you want (“dat?!”), the way you nod your head up and down very slowly, all your cute little animal noises (especially your monkey noise “ah ah!” and your kitty noise “mouw”), how you speak with such confidence in fluent gibberish, and the way you start waving night-night and signing “milk” when you want to go to sleep.

Jameson Monthly, Life with Jameson

12 months of Jameson

Can you believe it?! We’re here! One whole year with this sweet baby boy. I don’t fully believe it yet, even though yesterday was his birthday and all the announcements and pictures from the day he was born keep popping up on my Timehop. Somehow I still think this must all be some kind of joke! My tiny infant cannot be a toddler. That just cannot be.

All the same, I thought I would be more emotional than I am right now. I shed a few tears  the other night after I rocked him to sleep for the last time as a “baby,” but mostly I’m just happy. Happy about everything from this year! The good and the bad, the fun and the sad. Every laugh, every snuggle, every proud moment, every difficult learning curve…all of it. I am happy and I am so, so thankful.

This will be my last monthly update on Jameson for awhile. I plan on coming back every few months to write down the highlights as he grows and learns, but it’ll probably be something like every 3-6 months or so, rather than every month. I will, however, be writing more frequently about other things in between the Jameson updates. 🙂 This blog started out as a simple way to document my pregnancy, but it’s turned into such a wonderful creative outlet for me and I hope to keep up with it for many years to come.

Anyway, here we go! Twelve months of Jameson. This is where we stand with our one year old. ❤

Processed with VSCO with s3 preset

Weight & Length: We had his one year checkup this morning and he weighed in at 21 pounds, which is slightly less than last month but only by a few ounces. He’s been around 21 lbs since he was 10 months old (he’s so active, though, so that’s not surprising) and he’s in the 30th percentile for weight. Height-wise he’s 2 feet, 5 inches and his doctor mentioned that he’s starting to slide down in the percentile rankings (he’s a little less than the 25th percentile). She said it’s nothing to be worried about (especially after I mentioned that my husband didn’t hit his major growth spurt until later in high school) and said that it’s likely he’ll just be a late bloomer like Alex and I both were. Based on his height at six months, though, she predicted that he’ll be around 6’1″ once he’s fully grown (with a growth spurt around the time he’s 15-17 years old). I just feel bad that he’ll probably be a little dude for so long! Oh well, Alex survived it and I know Jameson will too.

Processed with VSCO with s2 preset

Clothing: Still 12-18 month clothes (but he’s starting to fit in some 18 month stuff too if it’s on the smaller side) and size 4 diapers. I love shopping for him now because he fits in the toddler outfits, which are so much cuter than all the baby clothes that say dopey things on the front of everything. Just make a darn shirt without any words on it for goodness sake. Sheesh!

Processed with VSCO with g2 preset

Hair & Eyes: I would probably call his eyes hazel or dark green. They are gorgeous. He’s going to break a lot of hearts with those dark brooding eyes and crazy long lashes. His hair is still fairly light, partly red, partly brown, partly blonde. Just a tie-dyed mixture of really pretty shades. It still curls in the back but when it’s wet it reaches down past his shoulders hahah. Alex is getting antsy to cut it but I do not want to cut off those curls. Maybe we’ll clean it up a little soon, but his hair is so thin anyway that a real haircut would be ridiculous at this point. I comb it over all nice and neat every day anyway, so it’s not like it looks girly or silly or something like that. And besides, I would never choose to cut his hair short (like buzz it or something) ever ever ever, no matter how old he gets. I prefer slightly longer hair on boys, for styling purposes. So for now, I win and we keep the curls. 🙂

Processed with VSCO with c2 presetimg_1056img_1072Sleep: He’s still on the two naps per day schedule but I’m guessing he’ll go down to one pretty soon. His morning nap has been total crap every day for the past week or so (used to be a solid hour and a half every day, now it’s more like 30 minutes). But one of the days this week I tried pushing him to just take one nap and it was a complete fail. He slept for like an hour tops and then was a total grump the rest of the day. So maybe he’ll just take a short cat nap in the morning for awhile until we phase it out. His afternoon nap is still solid and he’s still going to bed around 8pm. Wakes up at 6am every day (way too early for my taste) but Alex uses that time to play with him before work and lets me sleep in a little longer. So it’s all good. 🙂

Processed with VSCO with s3 presetimg_0797Eating: Ugh, I don’t want to talk about this! I get so frustrated because Jameson is one of the most challenging eaters I’ve ever seen. He changes tastes almost daily (one day he’s into something, the next day he absolutely refuses…although his doctor did say this is typical), he throws food off his high chair all the time, he spits anything he doesn’t particularly care for out of his mouth, and once he’s frustrated with eating it’s all over. If that happens two minutes into a meal, too bad. He’s done. And he’s so little that I have no way of asking him what the problem is. Texture? Flavor? Not hungry? Want something else? I get so exasperated nearly every meal. I hate making food that he’s just going to feed the dog because that is such huge waste of time, money, and food. Plus Charlie is going to get fat haha. I’ve been trying to find healthy power foods that I can feed him quickly before he gets annoyed but homeboy is such a carb and dessert lover that anything beyond Goldfish or cookies is pretty much a total flop. Ah, please someone tell me it gets better! I nurse him about 3 times a day so he’s still getting nutrition that way…but we can’t keep that up forever and I need him to be okay with eating before we can stop. Oye. Rough times. Hopefully I have something better to report next time I write an update hahah.

Likes smoothies.
Sharing his cookie with me.

Milestones: His sixth tooth is juuuust breaking through (his bottom left) and he’s gnawing on things like crazy, poor baby. In terms of gross motor development, he’s such an active kid and is always pushing himself to figure out new things. He can speed walk now (almost runs sometimes!), walk backwards, climb things, go up stairs, etc. I even saw him try to jump two different times! I’m starting to teach him how to eat with a spoon which he loves trying to do, and his fine motor skills are always improving. This age is so much fun. He’s not quite as wobbly anymore so it’s not quite as terrifying every second haha.

The one finger.

Communication: He says “uh oh” now, “na na” for night night, “meh meh meh” for more, “ah dun” for all done (but he thinks it means “help,” I’m pretty sure), and he understands so much. Oh it is SO fun! He can follow simple directions (“Put the toy in,” “throw the ball,” “come here,” “no touch,” “no mouth,” “give kisses, “give hugs,” “share with mama,” “where’s mommy’s nose?” etc.). And he copies words we say (like “mama” and “dada,” although he hasn’t actually called either of us by name yet. Maybe “dada” once or twice). His favorite thing to babble is “tookatookatooka” and I love it haha. He copies hand gestures too like pointing, wagging his finger for “no no no,” waving, giving high fives, and trying to do “I’m a Little Teapot.” He also sings along to the song “Ho Hey” by the Lumineers (“OH!”). I love how much more we can interact now and I can’t wait to have real conversations with him and hear all his wonderful thoughts!

Hi mom!

Loves: Music and dancing, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, helping me with the laundry, going outside and playing in the dirt/rocks/ripping leaves off my plants, chasing Charlie, playing high-stakes peekaboo (aka I jump out and try to scare him), anything that keeps him active, bath time/all things water-related (the splash pad especially!), reading, playing in the fridge, desserts (me too, buddy), and grabbing stuff out of the dishwasher (seriously loses his mind if I close it before he can get there, and if he does make it there in time he is just beside himself with joy that he’s able to take the spatulas out and play with them).

First time at the library! He loved all the books.

Hates: Sitting still for too long (we’re working on that…church has become something of a circus act trying to wrangle him during the message, since we have family-integrated services). Also hates being told “no touch.” Not all the time, but when he really wants something he gets maaaad if he finds out he can’t have it. But we’re working on first-time obedience and respecting mommy and daddy. It’s hard at this age because the language is just not there to explain things, but I’m fully confident that he can learn to obey without knowing the exact reason. Honoring your father and your mother doesn’t mean “only when you know and agree with their reasons” and I want to start training him up now before he gets into full-fledged toddlerhood haha. He already does know boundaries, even this young. And he really does listen pretty well for such a little guy.

Also, he hated when Alex put him in his shirt hahaha.

Things I want to remember: How excited you get when Daddy gets home from work, how you share your toys (but since you like to chew on them all, you share by putting them near my mouth because you think I’ll like to chew on them too), how you walk around with you belly sticking out, how you mosey all over smacking your chest when you don’t have a shirt on, how you dance with your arms up in the air and slowly walk around in a circle, how you sing “Ho Hey” along with the song (“OH!), how you try to explain yourself with a very serious look on your face when you know you’re doing something bad (Me: Jameson, what are you– You: *jump away from item* Ahtookatookatooka!), when I catch you with something you’re not supposed to have and you hand it to me like that was your plan all along, how you like to explore new things with just one very careful pointer finger, how you run to us and fall into our arms with a huge smile, the way you hurry your little tushy away after baths and make me chase you to get dressed, how you sometimes start dancing or clapping along to silly songs that I’m making up on the spot (makes me feel famous or something), and how you’ve recently started sharing with other kids (gently handing your toys to someone you think might have fun with it). Sweet boy!

Me and my birthday boy. ❤

My favorite face he makes.

Meeting his great-grandma!

Jameson, my little love, you are everything to us. This year with you has been the best of our lives. You make our little family overflow with love and laughter and fun. We adore you. I am so thrilled to see what God has in store for us in year TWO! ❤

Jameson Monthly, Life with Jameson

11 Months of Jameson

Things are getting interesting around here. 😉 Now that Jameson is walking like a pro (well, like a drunken sailor. But still much better than he was last month), he’s getting a lot more independent and a lot more outspoken about what he wants to do. Part of this is not so fun (e.g., he tries to leap out of my arms so he can walk to something he wants) but most of it is so awesome to see. I love his determination and I love how he doesn’t give up on his goals (although I could do without his try-to-eat-Charlie’s-food-every-few-hours goal). I can feel us transitioning into toddlerhood and I hate it and love it at the same time. Being a parent is confusing in many different ways.

I can’t believe that next month it’ll be a whole year since we met our boy! But let’s not think about that just yet, please. I’m not ready. For now, here’s where we stand at eleven months old…

Raise your hand if you’re 11 months old!

Weight & Length: We won’t know any officials until his one year appointment next month, but I weighed him this week and he’s around 21.4 lbs, which is 0.4 pounds more than last month (but obviously still pretty much the same. Thank goodness, he’s a chunk to carry around all day hahah).

Processed with VSCO with s2 preset

Clothing: Mostly 12-18 month stuff for the clothes and size 4 in diapers still. Pretty much the same as last month!

Hair & Eyes: I kiss his little blondish/reddish/brownish curls all the time. They are just so cute! His eyes are are still that dark green color. Sometimes I think they look just like Alex’s, sometimes I think they look just like mine. Maybe they’ll always be a combination.

Processed with VSCO with s2 presetIMG_0625

Sleep: About the same as last month! He’s up for the day around 7 or 7:30, takes an hour and a half morning nap, an hour and a half afternoon nap, and then he’s down for the night around 8pm. He still wakes up around 5am every morning, though…sometimes he goes back to sleep on his own, sometimes Alex brings him into our bed and he’ll go back to sleep then. I keep saying we should try to break that habit, but it really doesn’t bother me too much and I know he’ll grow out of it eventually. So for now I’m just enjoying our morning snuggles in the big bed.  🙂

Eating: I’d say his nursing/eating regular food is about fifty-fifty at this point (actually sometimes more in favor of nursing). He eats three meals a day, but he still nurses in between those meals (usually right before a nap or before bed). It is slooooow goings in the regular food department. Jameson is super skeptical of everything, takes forever to warm up to a new food (besides snack foods or desserts), and fights meals almost every time. I can’t tell if it’s because he’s just not liking what I give him, if he’d rather nurse, or if he just doesn’t like sitting still to eat (this boy is go, go, go). Maybe a combination. Either way, I’ve been trying to make meals interesting and offer him lots of different choices to see what he likes. But I’m not going to force it on him. I’m fine if we keep nursing for awhile if that’s what he needs. I won’t stop nursing until I’m confident that he’s getting enough nutrition and calories from regular food anyway. And right now, he definitely isn’t. If you have any tips or meal ideas for little ones, please send them my way!

“Oooh that’s some good milk.”
Ice cream is always a win.
Processed with VSCO with s2 preset
Donuts are always a win, too.
Food everywhere but in his mouth.

Milestones: He got his fifth tooth this month (next to his right top tooth) but no sign of the matching one for the left side yet haha. He’s gotten so much better at walking since last month and actually never even crawls anymore at all, unless he’s already playing on the floor. He doesn’t mind falling over either…he just pops right back up! He’s also getting more courageous with climbing things (scares the crap out of me all the time) and likes to test the limits to see how fast he can walk/run.

Teef!Processed with VSCO with s3 preset
Little climbing monkey.

IMG_0517Communication: He’s been super into copying sounds and even words (not very well haha) these days. I think he’s really close to his first word, if he hasn’t said it already (hard to tell). Almost every day I think I hear him say “all done” (“ah duh”) but I don’t know if it’s just coincidence or not. He has definitely signed it, though, so I guess that’s technically his first word either way! He also copies me when I say “uh oh” (“UH!”) and babbles almost nonstop during the day. He understands a lot of the words I use every day (Daddy, Charlie, ball, water, no, hi, etc.) and will look for whatever it is I’m talking about until he finds it (e.g., “Where’s Daddy?” and he’ll look around the room until he finds Alex). He loves interacting with games and songs (especially doing the “tip me over” part of “I’m a Little Teapot”) and loves clapping for things to show you he likes something or to get me to say “yay!” He sometimes even asks for the name of things in his own way (will reach is arm toward an object and say, “eh?” and then I’ll give him the name of it). It is so much fun!

IMG_9980Loves: A lot of the same stuff as last month… Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and anything Mickey-related (included the real mouse himself in Disneyland), the ocean, listening to Alex play guitar, being in the Ergobaby carrier, playing with the coasters in the living room, attempting to grab/chew/mess with any wire he can find, playing fetch with Charlie, trying to grab Charlie’s tail, sneaking snacks from Charlie’s food bowl (I pull him away from there at least 8 times a day. It’s his biggest temptation right now.), playing with balls and blocks, walking around the house, figuring out how things work, playing peek-a-boo or hide-and-go-seek with me, READING (loves loves looooves), watching me vacuum and steam the floors and trying to catch the machines haha, playing in the open fridge, playing in the dishwasher (also an area of dislike because he’s not allowed to do this), dancing to music, and just about anything having to do with being outside.

Hates: Not getting his way. Not being allowed outside. When I close the dishwasher before he can get there (even if he just hears me close it from another room, he will start bawling his eyes out. I usually have to save doing the dishes for during his naps because of this haha). And probably the biggest one…he hates sitting still. If he’s awake, we wants to move. Which is part of the reason why I think he hates meal time so much…he just doesn’t have the patience for sitting down and doesn’t care about food enough to make it worthwhile. (He also hated when Charlie tried to share his car seat hahahah)

IMG_0715Things I want to remember: Our high-pitched screaming contests, your open mouth kisses which you give out sometimes when I (or Daddy or Aunt Chuck) ask for them, the way you run/stumble the last few steps to me and fall into my arms with the biggest smile, the way you take my hand and lead me around the house, that face you make when you don’t want anymore of something (nose all scrunchy, lips puckered), the way you play with washcloths in the bathtub (placing them just so in the corner, admiring your work, and then picking them back up again and starting over), how you started trying to balance things this month (carefully setting an item on top of something else and slooooowly lifting your chubby little hands off of it to make sure it stays put), the way you crawl or walk away as fast as you can after baths so you don’t have to get dressed, how you gently lay your head on my shoulder and smile shyly at people who come up to talk to you, how you absentmindedly play with my fingers or ring while I’m holding you, the way you veeerrryyy carefully duck your head and crawl nice and slow under the kitchen chairs, the way you used to speed crawl around with your head down and a look of determination on your face, how Charlie and I literally run down the hall when we hear you wake up from your naps every day, and how adorable you look when you squat down with that big old diaper booty to play with a toy on the floor. You are just so so cute, Jameson.

Jameson Monthly, Life with Jameson

Ten months of Jameson

Ten months is so much fun! I thought I would be more emotional as we get closer and closer to Jameson’s first birthday, but I’m honestly just loving every new stage. Each month is better than the last and I love seeing Jameson learn and experience new things. Alex says this is his favorite stage so far (this and the newborn stage) and I totally agree. There are so many wonderful things about life with Jameson at ten months!

DSC_7068 (1)

Weight & Length: No well visit until his 1 year appointment (crazy, I feel like we were just bringing our squirmy little two-day-old to his very first appointment) so I don’t know his percentile rankings or height, but I weighed him myself and he’s about 21 lbs, which is two more than he was last month!

Processed with VSCO with a6 preset

Clothing: Still in mostly the 12 month size, although some of his shorts and pants need to be bigger to fit those chunky thighs. Diapers are still size 4 and I’m guessing he’ll be in those for awhile.

Processed with VSCO with s3 preset
One of my favorites that he fits in right now, from his Aunt Catherine. 🙂

Hair & Eyes: His hair is still a mix of colors and still adorably curly in the back. I can’t get enough of those curls! I especially love when he wakes up from a good nap and his curls are extra fuzzy and pointing every which way. So cute! His eyes are still that deep olive green and he’s got the best eyelashes ever.

Sleep: Scheduling has been one of the best decisions I’ve made for us. Jameson is doing so well with napping! He gets up around 6:30am, takes one morning nap and one afternoon nap (usually around the same time every day, unless he wakes up extra early or extra late), and then is ready for bed by 8pm. He’s still waking up at like 5 every morning (at which point Alex brings him into our bed) and I keep telling myself we’ll work on it…but I just love the cuddles every morning too much! I can’t do it yet haha. Maybe next month. But probably not. 🙂

Eating: We’re still nursing pretty consistently but he eats big boy food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day. His favorites right now are Cheerios, yogurt, waffles, all kinds of bread, those fruit and veggie squeezies by Beechnut, Puffs, chicken nuggets, pretty much any fruit, pizza (yup), and…ice cream/cookies/anything dessert-related haha. We’ve only given him a few tastes of certain things, but homeboy already has a major sweet tooth. A boy after my own heart!

Holding hands and eating nuggets.
Murdered some blueberries.

Milestones: He’s got three teeth (two on the bottom, one on the top) with the other top tooth about to break through. We got him his first toothbrush and baby toothpaste (no fluoride so it’s safe to swallow) and we practice brushing every day. He learned how to drink from a straw this month, and he can stand alone for long periods of time now. He can even hold toys and play while standing without support! Plus he learned how to stand up straight from the floor (doesn’t need to hold onto anything to get up anymore). And the big one this month…he took his first steps!!! His first unassisted step was on June 22nd (my niece’s birthday), he took another one a few days later, and then on June 29th he took three steps in a row towards my best friend. 🙂 Such a sweet moment! Ever since then he’s been taking one or two steps here and there and one night he walked five steps in a row, but mostly he still prefers the tried and true crawling. He’s fast and he knows it. 😉

Looking like such a big boy in his first pair of sneakers!

Look closely for the teeth!

Communication: One of his favorite games these days is getting people to copy him! He’ll make a noise, wait to see if you’ll imitate him, and then keep going back and forth as long as you’ll play. His favorite noise to try and get you to copy is a fake cough hahah. Such a ham! He loves to babble all the time and tries to imitate patterns that I do (like “eh eh eh” after I say “yay yay yay,” or “ah ah” for “uh oh”). My favorite “word” he says usually happens when he’s playing by himself…he’ll just go, “DAT!” in a high squeaky voice (with an emphasis on the “t” sound) over and over again. So cute! He also got really good at clapping this month and uses that to show you he’s happy or to see if you’ll clap along with him.

The fake cough.

(Saying “ba ba ba”)

Loves: Reading, swimming, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and anything having to do with Mickey, opening and closing things (especially cabinets and doors), when I sing him songs (favorites are “A Bushel and a Peck,” “I’m a Little Teapot,” and “The Itsy Bitsy Spider”), playing with everything inside the kitchen cabinets (especially the strainers, mixing bowls, and pots/pans), sliding stuff along the floor, anything with wheels (like his new Hot Wheels car), destroying paper, chasing Charlie around, playing in his kiddie pool, hangin’ with cousin Madelyn and really his whole immediate family, girls with blonde hair (lol. don’t know why, but it’s almost always true.), my best friend Brittany, reading books (still especially “Llama Llama Red Pajama” but now also “A Kissing Hand for Chester Raccoon” and “Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?”), having people over our house to play, piggyback rides, hide-and-go-seek (really just me hiding and calling his name and him coming to find me), and of course being around his mommy and daddy. 🙂

Reading “Llama Llama Red Pajama” with his actual Llama

Hates: When I close the dishwasher before he can get there to touch all the dirty dishes, not being allowed to play in Charlie’s water bowl and splash it all over his face, having to come inside (or not being allowed outside), basically getting anything he wanted taken away from him, and when I walk out of a room without picking him up and bringing him with me (this is mostly cute, though).

Oh so sad because we came inside instead of playing in the 110 degree heat.

Things I want to remember: How cute you look when you stand with your little chubby legs kind of squatted, the scrunched up face you make when you’re all done eating and I’ve tried to give you another bite, how excited you get about new things and how you still do that thing where you start breathing really loud and fast with your mouth and eyes wide open, the way you eat your fruit and veggie squeezies like a big boy, the way you come a-runnin’ whenever you hear or see food being eaten, how you sit up on your knees and reach your arms up to tell me you want to be held, how you like to hide behind things and then poke your head out to surprise me, the way you try to get me to play and laugh with you (like tackling my back and then looking to see if I’m smiling), how quiet and thoughtful you get during our reading time, how you lay on your belly and peek under the couches/bed/dresser, all the funny places I’ve found you (under the bed, in the cabinets, behind the door, etc.), how curious you are to see how things work, and how much you love love love me and your daddy.

“Can I help you, Mommy?”

Jameson Monthly, Life with Jameson

Nine months of Jameson

Jameson has officially been in the outside world for as long as he was inside my tummy. I can’t believe it! Only three more months and we’ll have to start counting our baby’s age in years. That’s so weird to me! I don’t like it. I don’t like it one bit. I’ll probably switch to less frequent updates at that point, maybe once every  3-6 months or so, and post about other things in between that (my tips & ideas, letters to Jameson, holiday recaps, and other random life happenings).

Aaaanyway. Here we go with month nine of the sweetest, most wonderful baby boy! ❤

Weight & Length: At his 9 month well visit he weighed in at 19 lbs, 4 oz which is actually less than he was last month. That’s the first time in his entire life that that’s happened! It’s only by a few ounces, though, and the doctor wasn’t concerned at all. In fact she said that this typically happens when babies become more active, which Jameson certainly has. He’s about 28 inches tall now and in the 36th percentile for both height and weight. And, ironically, the 37th for head circumference. Overall, pretty well-proportioned. 🙂

Processed with VSCO with s2 preset

Clothing: He’s in 12 month stuff for the most part, but the tricky part is finding shorts/pants that fit. His legs are so deliciously chubby that they need the 12 month size, but he isn’t super tall so his shorts are usually super long on him. But it’s okay, I’m sure he’ll grow into everything soon enough! We just switched to size 4 diapers which, again, was only because of his chunky legs. We have to pull them tight to fit around his waist but size 3 was just getting too snug around his thighs/buns.

Processed with VSCO with c3 preset

Hair & Eyes: His hair is so darn cute these days, getting all curly in the back! I LOVE it. I keep waiting for the top to curl too, but then my mom told me that my hair was only curly in the back and around the edges when I was little…so if his hair is like mine he might just have the kind of curls I had. The color is still the same mix as it’s been for awhile (light brown, red, blonde, and gold in the light). His eyes are the same deep olive/hazel they’ve been as well.

Sleep: We’re finally on a bit of set schedule for sleep. I kind of just decided that enough was enough and gave it a try based on his natural sleeping habits, and he responded to it really well! He wakes up around 6:30am (at which point Alex hangs out with him while he’s getting ready for work), naps around 9:30/10 and then again at 2 or 3 depending on how long his first nap was, and then he goes to bed at 8. With just two solid naps during the day (rather than the random cat naps he was taking), he’s been getting much better sleep. His naps are usually an hour and a half long each, sometimes a little longer or shorter, and he wakes up in a great mood. I should’ve tried this scheduling thing sooner! The only problem right now is that he wakes up at 4:30 every morning pretty much like clockwork. Alex brings him into our bed at that time, I nurse him, and he snuggles with us for a couple of hours. In general it’s fine and I love having him in bed with us, but sometimes he has trouble falling back to sleep and then he’s just wide awake for the day at like 5am. Not my favorite haha.

Processed with VSCO with c2 presetIMG_9307IMG_9306IMG_9174IMG_9143

Eating: He nurses throughout the day, usually every 4 hours or so, and he’s been loving eating real food lately (as opposed to baby food purees, which I rarely give him anymore because he just hates them). His favorites are vanilla yogurt (he’s obsesssseddd), Cheerios (also insanely obsessed), Nutrigrain Soft Bars (apple flavored), strawberries & blueberries, pineapple, any type of bread (especially croissants), mac ‘n cheese, Puffs, mashed potatoes, grilled cheese, and pizza (like father like son). But honestly, he’ll try anything we give him and he always wants to have what we have on our plates. He still prefers to nurse, though, and never eats a ton of regular food at one time.

Processed with VSCO with g2 preset

Loves frozen blueberries.

Milestones: He’s got his two bottom teeth now! Although one is more grown in than the other haha. I love when he randomly notices that he has them and he just starts running his tongue back and forth over them and looking all confused. Since he cut the second one he’s been in a much better mood, although he’s still gnawing at everything and his top gums are super swollen. I think more teeth will be popping through soon. He pulls himself up on everything (adorable until he’s in the bath and then it’s a circus act trying to keep him still to get clean) and he loves to cruise around the furniture (he’s getting really good). And just a couple of days ago he started really practicing standing on his own! He hoists himself up on something, lets go, and then kind of freezes like that for a few seconds. He still has to figure out the whole balance thing because he gets excited and then topples over (or I get excited and scare him haha) but he’s definitely got the strength to do it on his own. Ah, baby boy you don’t have to rush to grow up so fast! 😦

Look closely and you’ll see his little tooth!
Big kid car seats!

Communication: He loves to wave, he’s starting to clap (although not really in response to anything in particular), and he understands quite a few words and phrases. He babbles all the time and is starting to mix different consonant-vowel combinations together (“ba ma da” rather than just “ba ba ba”). He says “na na” when he’s upset and wants me (especially to nurse) but I don’t think it’s linked to one specific thing yet, so I don’t count it as a true word. But he’s getting close!

Loves: Mom and Dad, chasing Charlie around the house, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, when the commercials come on Spotify while we’re listening to music (so random and strange but he gets so excited every time), guitars (he will claw his way to a guitar whenever he sees one, even at church), the pool and all things water-related including his new kiddie pool, wires (ugh), “Llama Llama Red Pajama” and really all baby books, playing with blocks and balls, his cousin Madelyn, feeding himself, exploring our new house and the backyard, playing in the fridge, laying on the floor while Alex waves a blanket over his face (lol his favorite game), and getting into anything he’s not supposed to get into.

First time in the pool!

Hates: Whenever you take something away from him that he really wanted (example: wires, Charlie’s toys, pieces of carpet that he wanted to eat, etc.). He is very vocal about his anger in this area haha. Also hates when I leave the room or put him down when he was hoping to be held. And I hate teething. Just…the worst.

Sad because I didn’t get him from his nap in 0.2 seconds.
First impressions of the car seats…not great haha.

Things I want to remember: How you sometimes actually kiss me when I say “Can I have a kiss?”, how you hook your foot on my hip when I’m holding you and try to fling yourself sideways to let me know you want to nurse, how adorable you look when I call your name as you’re crawling away and you turn around to sit and face me instead, the fact that you actually cry whenever a book ends (so sweet), the way you just chuck your sippy cup over the edge of your high chair to let me know you’re done with it, how you’ve started sitting on your knees to play sometimes (such a big boy!), the way you like to grab and hang onto your chubby little foot while you’re nursing, how you “clap” (really just you banging your fists together once or twice), your kicky legs when you’re on my hip and you see something you really want, all the funny ways you wake me up in the mornings (e.g., smushing your face into mine, poking my eyelids, laughing/babbling loudly, flicking my bottom lip up and down, etc.), and how much you love just being with me and your daddy.

We have so much fun with you, Jameson! You make us laugh every single day and we love watching you grow and learn. You are our greatest blessing and we’re so thankful that God entrusted us with wonderful you. The world is a better place because you’re in it, and I hope you always believe that. We love you baby. ❤

Jameson Monthly, Life with Jameson

Eight months of Jameson

Happy eight months, baby boy! There are so many things I miss about the newborn stage (all those sleepy snuggles, itty bitty baby cries, those slooowww blinks and yawns), but every new month just gets better and better. I always say that I wish Jameson would stay this small (and part of me really does wish that), but the truth is there’s another part of me that is just so excited about each new stage and getting to see Jameson’s face light up as he experiences and accomplishes new things. I really really love being a mother. Here’s what’s new in Jay’s world for this month…

Weight & Length: No well visit this month (not until 9 months) so I don’t know his height or his percentile rankings, but we did happen to go to the doctor this week because of a low-grade fever so we found out that he’s 19 lbs, 11 oz! Once again, about a pound bigger than last month (that seems to be his pattern). And look at all that yummy chunk. 🙂

Clothing: It depends on the brand but he’s in mostly 9 month and even some 12 month clothes! He wears a lot of Gymboree outfits and for that he’s in the 6-12 month size they have. Diapers are still size 3 for now but I’m guessing the next box we buy will be size 4. Homeboy’s got some chunky thighs.

Eyes & Hair: Olive green/hazel for the eyes and a whole mixture of colors in his hair! He’s got light brown, hints of red, and golden blonde all throughout. I’m so curious to see what color it turns into when it gets thicker! He’s also starting to get some curls in the back and by his ears, which is just the cutest thing! I figured he’d get some texture eventually because my husband has the curliest hair ever and my hair used to be super curly when I was little (although it’s more just wavy now). I’m guessing Jameson will be somewhere in between.

“Hmm, that’s a good point.”

Sleep: He’s down for the night around 8:30 these days (sometimes earlier), wakes up around 6am (at which point Alex brings him into bed to snuggle with me), and then he’s up for the day around 7 or 7:30. Nap time is still not as consistent as I’d like it to be, but he’s typically ready for a nap every 3 hours which makes it a little easier to plan out the day. He’ll nap for either 40 minutes or an hour an a half. Rarely anything in between that and rarely anything more. I’m hoping we can get on a more solid schedule just because I like routines, but if not then I’m okay with how we’ve been going. He sleeps really well for the most part so I’m not complaining!

Still sucks his fingers to get to sleep. ❤

Mother Mary.

Eating: Still going strong with nursing but we’ve also been working on having three set meals throughout the day, just to get him in the habit. He very rarely eats a ton all at once but he is getting better about eating what I give him. For breakfast he’ll have some vanilla yogurt or some baby oatmeal/rice cereal with a fruit puree mixed in (favorites are apple/blueberry and prunes), a real fruit (favorite is blueberries which I cut up small because I’m terrified of him choking), and Cheerios (which he loves and gets so excited to feed himself). For lunch we do a vegetable puree (he’s pickier with veggies and tends to like something one day and then refuse it the next. But ones he has liked are sweet potatoes, carrots, and green beans) and I’ve been trying to give him a protein too, like chicken nuggets. Still working on that though. For dinner I usually give him bits of whatever we’re eating if it’s baby-friendly, like potatoes or bread or baked mac ‘n cheese. In general, I’ve noticed he prefers to eat what we eat rather than specific baby purees so I’ve been trying to gear everything towards him a little more and it’s been working better.

Milestones: He pulls himself up to stand on everything now, even things that aren’t very stable which is nice and terrifying for me. I basically spend every day just following him around and pulling him away from stuff he’s not allowed to touch. I can’t wait until we move into our new house at the end of this month because we’ll finally have some more space for this little explorer. This month he’s also started trying to stand on his own…he’s only done it a few times but he gets so excited when he does! He’ll pull himself up, let go with one hand, and then very occasionally let go with the other hand and kind of sway for a second. Scares the crap out of me but he loves it. He cruises around on the furniture too (especially in his crib) and can move from one piece of furniture to another if it’s close by. And if you hold both of his hands he can walk veryyyy slowly haha. Another big milestone this month is that… HE FINALLY CUT HIS FIRST TOOTH!!! He didn’t complain much about teething and his gums never got that swollen so I was kind of shocked when, earlier this week, I just happened to see the tip of his left bottom tooth sticking out! That little booger is sharp too, so look out. I’m guessing he’ll get the other bottom tooth soon because I’ve heard they often come in twos, but who knows! I’m just excited that he has one haha.

Sounds: I think I’m going to change this category to be Communication because “sounds” isn’t broad enough anymore. For example, he understands a lot more than he can express. He knows what I mean when I say “water,” “more,” “no” (although he doesn’t always listen haha), “all done,” “I’m gonna get you,” “one, two, three!” and “hi” for sure. And he’s finally officially in the babbling stage. He used to just babble here and there but now he’s a lot more consistent with it and seems to have lots to say. 🙂 His favorites right now are “dada,” “baba,” “nana” (almost sounds like “no no” and he only does it when he’s upset), and “mama.” I am fully confident that he has no meaning associated with any of these “words” but I still love hearing his little voice.

Loves: Mommy first and foremost (he will always choose me over anyone and anything else, which I kind of love), Daddy (a very close second), Charlie and anything associated with Charlie (included his water and food bowls, his toys, his tail, etc.), cousin Madelyn, those springy door-stoppers (ob.sessed.), his blankie, Puffs, when you nibble his fingers (or even when Charlie nibbles his fingers haha), standing up on everything, “Llama Llama Red Pajama,” being tickled, getting his ears cleaned, playing peekaboo (more like high stakes peekaboo because the better you can scare the crap out of him, the more he loves it), playing with anything he’s not supposed to play with, music, banging on Alex’s guitar (really banging on anything at all…he’s such a boy), OJ pops (I literally just freeze orange juice and he loves it), his sippy cup, his walker toy, brushing his teeth (aka gnawing on a baby gum massage thing while I brush my teeth), and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse (he squeeeals every time he hears the theme song).

Brushing his “teeth”

Loves Charlie so much he can’t even handle it.
Seriously can’t handle it.
“Let me kiss you!!!”

Hates: This is a new one this month (and I don’t think it will be going away for a long time)…he hates when you take something away from him, especially when he knows he’s not supposed to be touching it (like a wire or Charlie’s food dish). He’s pretty easily redirected and distracted at this point so that’s good, but still…he has his own ideas and he doesn’t like when you get in his way. Oh boy, toddlerhood is going to be fun with this boy haha. 🙂

Sad baby isn’t allowed to play with wires.

Things I want to remember: The way you yell “ahhhh!” and shove your face at Charlie with your mouth open to kiss him whenever he’s near you, how your mouth goes into a little “O” and you start waving your arms around really fast when you’re excited about something, how you know when your daddy is home before you even see him (because you hear the door opening) and how you get so excited and start looking around for him, your big belly laugh which I hear so often because you find everything so funny (I just have to open my eyes wide and you’ll start cracking up), the cheesy grin you give me right after you’ve just woken me up by smushing my face with your hand, how you attack your lemur stuffed animal with a vengeance and eat its nose, how you lean forward and tilt your head to peek around things, the way your face lights up when you see me coming in your room to get you after a nap, how you use everything as a boost to stand up on (even really short and flat things haha), the way you sometimes decide to look at me while you’re on my hip and how you have to lean allll the way back and tip your head backwards to see my face, how you follow me around everywhere (your dad calls you a little duckling because you just follow your mama around all day) and how you’re always looking around for me to make sure you know where I am (even when someone else is holding you), the way you shove your hand in your mouth whenever you get really excited, how you’ve started reaching for people to hold you (but only people you know very well), the way your little hand touches my face ever so gently when you’re nursing, and how much you love reading and will just sit with me while we go through book after book after book.

Always wants to be near me. ❤
